Great Villa Breaks in Lanzarote
Posted: under UK Travel.
Lanzarote is a wonderful holiday island – offering great weather even in winter and an abundance of excellent places to stay.
The island has been welcoming tourists for decades and manages the difficult balancing act of retaining its charm despite being a popular holiday destination. Thanks to the fact that the main resorts are all carefully contained in the south – whilst high rise buildings are notable by their absence. Having been banned during the 1970´s by an enlightened local government.
The north of Lanzarote in particular remains largely untouched by tourism – and this is the region to head for if you want to connect with the more authentic side of the island. Most visitors however head for the main resort of Puerto del Carmen, which is located just ten minutes from the airport at Arrecife. And which is home to a selection of some of the highest quality Lanzarote holiday villas and apartments on the island.
Playa Blanca is the second busiest resort and home to the bulk of the best hotels in Lanzarote too. Offering good quality four star accommodation from €50 per night upwards – along with five star luxury at the Gran Melia Volcan hotel, located close to the Rubicon Marina.
Cheap Lanzarote flights are easy to find online. There are now a number of flight comparison sites such as Skyscanner and Netflights which save tourists time by comparing the best flight deals. And most of the best known low cost airlines also fly to Lanzarote on a regular basis. Making it easy to get to the island cheaply. The flight time from the UK is around four hours and the main flight days for British tourists tend to be Thursdays and Mondays. Although services are now available from most airports throughout the week.
Lanzarote is a small island so it is very easy to get around. However car rental is imperative for tourists keen to view the main sights. As local bus services don’t run to some of these, such as the Timanfaya National Park. The other alternative is to take a guided tour – and there are a number of companies operating locally who provide this service. Expect to pay around €40 per head for a comprehensive tour of the islands main attractions.
Best of all Lanzarote isn’t just a summer holiday destination. Thanks to its incredible climate visitors can enjoy a break here at any time of the year.
