Over the years I have been all over the Mediterranean and Aegean islands, but for some reason I have never travelled to Cyprus. I decided to change all that this year, because for once I was not going away with my friends from my old School, but going away with my fiancé. I wanted to find somewhere romantic but fun too, and I wanted it to be somewhere that neither of us knew so that we could explore it together. After browsing through various Wikipedia pages about different locations in Cyprus, I eventually settled on Pathos. The photographs of the place looked beautiful and it really looked like a place that could combine sun, romance, historical interest and a bit of fun at night time too. It looked like there were some great bars and clubs, and some nice places to eat in the day, and all of the beaches looked great, and I knew from my other trips to nearby islands that the snorkelling would be out of this world.
My concern, of course, was how much a trip to this fantastic island was going to cost me. I knew just from looking at the photo’s that it must be expensive, but I thought that I would have a quick look online just in case there was something that I would be able to afford. Amazingly after only a few minutes of looking for some deals I came across a really cheap holiday to Paphos which ticked all the right boxes. It was near to the main town, it looked like a nice private little apartment set away from the main hotel, and it was close enough to the coast for us to be able to get to the beach easily.
I had found a fabulous holiday and I knew my fiancé would thank me forever for it!

How do you choose a conference venue? Perhaps word of mouth, or maybe you prefer to read reviews on the internet? On the other hand you may just choose the same venue every year, preferring to err on the side of caution and stick with what you know.
Well, there is another way without having to rely on someone else’s opinion, or the varying reviews found on the web, and that’s whether they’ve won awards. These give you the reassurance that the venue you are using has received industry recognition and been rewarded for outstanding excellence. Plus, there is the added benefit that as there are different awards celebrating different criteria, you can find the right one for your personal needs.
One such award winning venue is Alton Towers Resort, winner of a prestigious 2010 M&IT award in the ‘UK’s Best Unusual Venue’ category. Better known as the UK’s largest theme park than an award winning Midlands conference centre, this is one venue that can offer meetings, conferences and events that are sure to be thrill-packed. For example, you can enjoy exclusive use of the rides, their themed hotels or Water Park. You can even hire out the entire theme park for an event catering for a staggering 15,000+ guests.
If you’re on a budget, then you might want to consider Keele Conferences which was winner of ‘Best Value for Money’. Part of Keele University, this venue provides modern, professional facilities in a relaxed and welcoming environment. As well as all the services you’d expect from a well-run professional venue, Keel Conferences also offers a host of additional service such as financial, sponsorship as well as speaker and session management.
Another award winning venue is the RBS Williams F1 Conference Centre in Oxfordshire, a site shared with the famous AT&T Williams team. Offering an impressive modern and creative environment, its facilities range from a 200-seat lecture theatre to licensed bars and a shop. In addition to this, the centre also hosts one of the foremost private collections of Formula One race cars anywhere in the world and is home to 38 of the team’s seminal race cars.

The car hire industry could be classified by the length of the rentals. There are short term rentals which are priced daily, weekly and monthly. Then there are longer terms where rentals which are typically between 24 and 48 months.
The short term industry has multiple routes of entry and has many uses. Uses are varied and would include holiday rentals, use as a replacement vehicle and courtesy cars. Access to these can be found easily through the internet, over the phone or by simply walking into a one of many car rental offices.
In the case of short term hires it would be necessary to, as a minimum, provide identification in the form of a full driving license. It is also possible that a credit search would be taken out and a form of deposit may be required as protection for the car hire firm. An insurance policy would be needed which can be provided by the hire firm. Ensure you are clear what the policy is covering you for and check the level of excess before signing up.
The cost of rentals will be more expensive on a daily basis than monthly or quarterly rentals. Try to plan how long you will need the vehicle for before you take to try to minimize the daily cost. There is less options available for mid length rentals such as 12 month terms. The costs can be prohibitive for both the consumer and the providers.
Longer terms rentals tend to be 24 to 48 months but can sometimes be longer at 60 months. Again the longer rentals will be cheaper on a monthly basis than the shorter terms. It is worth considering carefully how long you are prepared to keep the same car as the escape costs from the contract can be costly.
The long term car rental will require a credit search and a larger initial payment of 3 months is often taken. Remember you will need to take out fully comprehensive insurance so you will need to factor this into the cost. Also consider maintenance costs, if you are doing a large number of miles it may be worth taking a maintenance contract.
Car hire in the UK is easily accessed provided you have the right identification and have a solid credit history. Shop around to find the best and most cost effective solution for your requirements.
